I have a super colourful Zine Squad zine to share today! This is the modern poet zine, created for Rebecca
Rebecca is a true modern poet as well as being a fantastic art journaller, so this was a perfect theme for her and such a fun topic for the squad to work on!

Original Zine Squad: Katie, Vanessa & Myself
Guest Ziner: Tori

Sea
- collage, felt tip, ink

Galaxy
- sharpie, watercolour

I wanted to compliment Katie's page on the right.
This abstract pattern mix of sharpie and watercolour ties the pages together without distracting from the galaxy girl.

Intake of breath
- felt tips, sharpie, water, collage

I used this poem in Oh Comely as my text and created my favourite inky background (in my favourite colour - rainbow) using felt tips and water. The sharpie stripes stay opaque even when drenched with water which I love!

This technique is explored more in detail in my course for Get Messy; Pen + Ink

Flowers
- collage, washi tape, stamps, pen

My page on the right is a real mix and match of colour and texture!

Rupi
- collage, pen

What would a modern poet zine be without a little Rupi Kaur?!

ZINE SQUAD | MODERN POET

My pages this week have taken a scorned lovers turn;
when the prince isn't all that charming (we've all been there, right?)

Princess
- oil pastel, felt tip, pen, collage

Ashley Goldberg style patterns for the demise of a not-so-fairy tale relationship

White Horse
- felt tips, ink, pen, collage, washi tape

I've got my own wings now, and this broomstick too!

Love Burns
- oil pastel, collage, ink, pen

Lost in the woods of heartache

My spirit animal turned up here for some comfort.

Kiss That Girl
- collage, oil pastel

The key to most unhappy relationships; jealousy, infidelity

Hurt You
- collage, pen, washi tape, felt tips

I wanted to use my wolf as a weapon

-

These pages were quite cathartic for me and my teenage self, if you've ever experienced a bad relationship, I fully recommend art journalling your feelings out, no matter how much time has actually passed.

GET MESSY 2017 | FAIRY TALES | WEEK 2

Today's post is my 5th in the color blast series - a group of colour themed journals that are literally travelling the world through the artists listed below.

Yellow is one of my favourite colours (especially the neon shade!) so working in this journal was really fun for me!
I also enjoyed the size of the journal itself; narrow and skinny, a new format for me which I liked more than I had anticipated.

Color Blast 2017:

Julia - Orange
Vanessa - Grey
Lauren Brown - Green
Lauren Blood - Purple
Moriah - Crimson
Sarah - Mint
Riet - Yellow

Yellow Diamonds
- ink, pen

Lemon Drops
- acrylic paint, stamps, pen

(left page) Working off the right hand wizard of oz text

Get Out
- ink, collage, felt tips, pen

(left page) I found this quote and just loved it - a more direct version of chin up buttercup!

Bloom
- ink, felt tips

(left page) A yellow floral explosion!

Found Yellow
- collage

This is a joint double spread where we were prompted by Riet (the journals owner and originator!) to stick down yachting yellow. I failed at this so bad, I kept an eager eye out but nothing really appeared. My meagre efforts are a yellow post it and a yellow foam do-nut sticker!

COLOR BLAST | YELLOW

This week is the official first week of fairy tale season with Get Messy - I absolutely love this theme and am so excited to share my pages today!

I created all of these in my German language book, it's proving a pretty good base for collage, pen and even watercolour

I can't hear you
-felt tips, collage

An intro to my adapted fairy tale, I love this quote on the left, it is actually a bible verse!
(Riet translated it for me)

Cinders
- felt tips, collage

My fairy tale pulls themes and creatures from across the Grimm land. Here we have Cinderella fleeing at midnight - not so she doesn't turn into a pumpkin, but so the big bad wolf doesn't eat her

The woods is also where my witch girl hangs out (still undecided if she's evil or not)

Home
- felt tips, collage

I used this original illustration in the book to build this homesick page around

Tick-Tock

- oil pastel, watercolour, collage

Ticking clock, wilting flowers...

The lost key

The Wolf's Page
- felt tips, collage

The four characters used in these pages

GET MESSY 2017 | FAIRY TALES | WEEK 1

A few weeks a go after the 100 day project was over, I put a call out on Instagram for anyone wanting to participate in some collaborative journals. Today I am sharing the start of one of these - I am actually working on 12 different collabs which is pretty insane and really cool!

These are pages from sun and moon journal that myself and Moriah are working on. For this journal, I was creating pages from the moon to the sun and when Moriah gets it, she'll be answering as the sun; same for her journal to me. We thought up this theme under the umbrella of love letters, it's the most unrequited love you can get, right?!

A lot of my pages are minimal or prompts for Moriah to work off, I can't wait to see how she adds to it.

I'll be sure to update you when each journal is finished as well as the other collabs that are currently in the works!
